My husband and I have had an enjoyable May. A piece of this is due to my sister-in-law’s desire to do her birthday in Miami. We planned the trip for several months. Miami is what I expected and then some. We visited many places in the area and still did not cover everything.
Day 1
This is about to sound cheesy, but I knew this trip was going to be a good trip when I saw what our gate number was at the Charlotte Douglas International Airport.
Our gate was B5. Many of you know I am a B5 fan. Yes — the music group that was managed by P. Diddy.

The flight wasn’t bad at all. I didn’t sleep, but I watched some television shows I had downloaded the night before. Before I knew it, we landed at Fort Lauderdale’s airport.
Let me tell you! If you know me, I like to speak Spanish (it is basic Spanish). I also like to learn more about different Latin/Hispanic groups. Therefore, when we first arrived at the airport and I heard the Latin music playing, once again it secured for me I was going to enjoy this trip.
On top of that, I heard the different languages being spoken at the airport. The different hues of folks were intriguing.
Why was this intriguing to me?
Because it reminds me that America is more than just black and white. America is more than just the English language.
We picked up our rental car from Hertz and headed to lunch. We felt special because we were on Hertz Gold.
As we left Fort Lauderdale and entered Miami, I realized that movies based in Miami have some accuracy. What I mean is, that some of the places we drove by really looked like scenes in Miami-based movies.
My husband and sister-in-law even compared certain things we see in downtown Summerville (South Carolina) or downtown Charleston (South Carolina) to Miami. They were comparing how the buildings looked and the type of businesses there in Miami.
We were doing all of this around 11 a.m. and we were hungry. I had just come off a fast and was hungry. Our itinerary for that day included a spot called, La Sanguich. It’s a spot to get Cuban sandwiches.
That food hit! My sandwich was on point!
We asked for plantain fries, but they ran out. They gave us a different type of sweet fries that tasted like sweet potato fries. We enjoyed the fries so much that we went back another day to get fries.

We stayed at an Air BnB in Wynwood. We liked staying in that area because we could tell folks that lived there might have been middle class. We have now learned that the area we stayed in is considered a part of Miami’s art district.
That day we also went to a nice Target. This Target was in a nice ritzy area. We had to get on an elevator to get to the Target. This fascinated me because I haven’t had to do this before. They had so many workers working there. I’m used to only seeing five workers at Target.
That night we ate dinner at a Mexican restaurant — Tequiztlan Mexican Restaurant and Tequila Bar. We went there within an hour of their closing.

Stay tuned for more. I think the next entry will be a video entry.
