Life as a freelance writer this year has been interesting. I am still writing for small newspapers and magazines. This year, I also wrote a personal piece for a well-known brand.

I wrote this for Prince William Living in Prince William County, Virginia.

This is the piece for well-known brand, Business Insider. It was an easier process and I was actually paid more than what I am used to.

For those wondering how I was able to get the project. I follow different writer handles on Twitter (X). Writers of Color is one. I saw an editor from Business Insider/Insider needed a story about Florida. She said her DM’s were open. I pitched to her that I was going to Florida for a cruise around Thanksgiving.

She DM’d me back and asked for more details to be sent to her email. I did so and we worked on my pitch until we came to an agreement. After that, I did the onboarding process as a contributing writer.

I look forward to writing for other brands next year.
