Marion County, SC — Syntrell C. Thompson Marketing Group & Associates, Helping Hands Free Medical Clinic and other organizations will host a diaper giveaway on Dec. 30.
Depending on the age of a child, a child can go through 10 diapers a day. With COVID-19 laying off parents of children, Head Start childcare programs –not in session– children may not have access to a consistent resource of clean diapers.
Syntrell Thompson, owner and founder of the marketing group for nonprofits, is a South Carolina certified Community Health Worker. She and other community health workers often co-host these diaper giveaways for parents.
“This is for any family or mother in Marion County who are experiencing a financial hardship,” Thompson said. “The adults in those families may have been laid off by COVID.”
Families can register on Eventbrite. When using Eventbrite, parents must select one e-ticket, for a free diaper bundle. Expecting parents, parents with infants 0 to children three years old are eligible for the donation. Upon receipt of their e-ticket they should then text (803) 250-6713 their name, diaper size needed (only sizes 0-5 available) and their cell number. Only one donation is available per family.
For those interested in the diaper bundle: it consists of 20-30 diapers and a pack of wipes. You will also receive informational materials on child passenger safety, safe sleep, WIC benefits, Medicaid and personal protective equipment is donated by sponsors.
Thompson said another reason this is important is because some daycare centers that accept the SC Voucher for free or reduced childcare services will not accept a child if diapers do not accompany children for the week.
NOTE: SC Voucher makes payments to childcare providers to care for children from low-income families so their parents can work
Helping Hands Free Medical Clinic is there to help county residents without health insurance, provide care to young women who are uninsured. The clinic offers programs to ensure women can receive Pap smears, contraceptives, cervical screening for cancer and the human papillomavirus.
“We want to be a true help to the mothers, especially those who may not know they are even eligible for these services,” she said.
“We are excited to partner with the Helping Hands Free Medical Clinic,” she said. “This is a drive-up event where you must wear your mask.”
This giveaway will be at Helping Hands Free Medical Clinic’s 230 South Main Street Mullins, SC location. The event is 2 p.m. to 5 pm. on Dec. 30.
